What we did

All Students (No instrument: Dacoda)
  • Used line 16 ("Hot Cross Buns") to establish whole, half and quarter note reading; This line utilizes the 3 pitches they should know.
    • Antonio: good time; right notes, acceptable tone.
      • Check reeds; he needs to be using a 3 or something stronger to force embouchure firmness
      • Establish better legato tonguing. Right now, you hear counting in his air stream.
    • Dominic
      • Understands the fingering fairly well but is having difficulty playing in time,
        • Air stream and embouchure are not coordinated yet to establish consistent tone. He is a little hesitant to apply pressure to the embouchure
    • Honesty
      • First time she has used a pretty good reed. I think she has enough knowledge to be proficient by next lesson but am concerned she will not be patient enough to master it.
    • Neamiah
      • He is his own worst enemy right now. He certainly has desire but lacks focus to be consistently good right now.
        • When he concentrated, he achieved a really good sound but it was fleeting.
          • We made adjustments to the embouchure, playing position and hand position and there were moments of great success. Unfortunately, these small successes did not last long. I am concerned that he will lack focus outside of class to establish a consistently good playing approach.

What to do
  • Meet performance targets on line 16

Looking Forward
  • Begin performance targets on line 17, 23 and 25.
